Yep...the third annual OVMF Band Contest is on the schedule! If you are an up and coming band, and you want to be part of the OVMF Band Contest send in your submission by June 1st. The winner will receive paid spot on main stage for next year, and 8 hours of studio time at The Studio, in Portland, Maine. Now that is pretty cool!
Last year's competition winner, Michelle Canning & The Rough Edges, will be playing the Maine Stage this year.
Here she is on the OVMF sponsored stage at the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival this February!
As far as your band's music... it needs to keep with the spirit of the festival. So anything in the Americana, Roots, Bluegrass, Old-Time Country, Folk, Blues, Jazz, Acadian, Cajun, Irish, Cape Breton, Acoustic... well you get the picture. Also know that the sound system will be a single condenser mic setup (old-time bluegrass style). Just work it like you love it!
Band submissions must be received by June 1st, 2013.
Submissions should be one to two recordings and one video of the band. Video can be in the form of a YouTube link. Recording must be emailed mp3.
Six finalists will be chosen from all submissions. These six finalists will then perform 3 songs live at the festival on the contest stage.
After the first round of 3 songs, two finalists will be chosen to perform 1 more song each. A winner will be chosen by the judges.
The winner will receive a paid spot on the main stage at the festival the following year and 8 hours of recording time at The Studio in Portland, Maine.
Bands must play music that is in the spirit of the festival. Portable acoustic instruments only but we can accommodate an electric keyboard or an electric bass if needed. Drum kits not allowed. However, a single snare drum with brushes and a high hat, or a hand drum is acceptable. The sound system will be a single condenser mic setup (oldtime bluegrass style!).
All participants must check in 1/2 hour before the start of the contest, and the order of performance will be determined at that time.
Band Contest entrants must purchase a ticket to the festival in order to compete. If you are selected, and chose to compete, you must purchase a ticket either online or at the gate.
